“Twilight” baby boom — “Cullen” and “Bella” now among the top newborn names!
Thanks to the gargantuan success of Twilight, “Cullen” (as in Edward, everyone’s favorite mopey sparkly vampire) has become the top 500 names for new baby boys, according to the Social Security Administration. Even more popular is the target of Edward’s affections: “Isabella” is now the most popular name for newborn girls, while “Bella” is ranked 58. This greatly increases the chances that in thirteen-eighteen years from now, we’ll see more than a few high school dudes named Cullen hooking up with chicks named Bella. Then again, the New York Times reports, “Jacob” is the very most popular baby boy name (and has been for over 10 years), so even without buff pecs or werewolf powers, we’re even more likely to see even more Bella-Jacob pairs.
